The Waters of Panama

The Central American country boasts variety of giant species, which dazzle for his strength. Image gallery.

Without a doubt, when one looks for sea fishing destinations in Central America, Panama is one of the stars of the region. The variety of species and forms found in its waters is only comparable with the best places for fishing in the world, making this wonderful country in growth to trap us in a very special way.

Limited to the South by Colombia and to the North by Costa Rica, Panama has coasts full of small islands close to the Mainland, where we give you with an infinite number of marine species in the more combative embarked fishing.

There are two very well defined forms of fishing in this destination: inshore and offshore. The difference between the two is marked by a major factor: the first performed it is sailing pretty close to the coast, and therein the diversity of fish that we can capture is enormous, since the powerful roosterfish (roosterfish for locals), cubera snnaper, jack, trevallys, Wahoo, barracudas and groopers blue, to a variety of very large Fund.

Three alternatives

The three types of fishing to make catches of these species are jigging, the popping (small jerks the rod to give lure jump, splash and make a pop sound) and bait fishing, mostly for the roosterfish and large snapper.

Moreover, offshore fishing changes radically in all aspects, since the distances to travel are much higher, given that usually occurs in rocky bottoms (as the famous Hannibal Banck) banks or nearby islands away (as the Montuosa). Here the main modality is trolling, which is practised in two different ways: to hell with bait that is obtained in the same place (such as tuna) or speed (usually between 6-8 knots) with special fiocos or ballyhoo, a natural bait of great performance for all the billfish.
